A serious crash brought traffic to a standstill on the M5 today, forcing the closure of all lanes in both directions and causing major disruption for motorists.
Emergency services were called to the scene between junctions 14 and 13 shortly after a collision was reported on January 13. Police swiftly shut down both carriageways as they responded to the incident and secured the area.
Just before 2 p.m., southbound lanes were reopened, allowing traffic to begin moving again. However, the northbound carriageway remains closed while police continue their investigation into the crash. Drivers are being urged to avoid the area and expect delays as inquiries continue.
Following the serious crash, the M5 is expected to remain closed for much of the day, according to National Highways.
In a statement, Gloucestershire Police said emergency services are continuing to respond to a major collision on the M5 northbound near Michaelwood Services. Officers were first called to the scene at around 11:40 a.m. on Tuesday following reports of a crash between junctions 14 and 13.
“All lanes in both directions between these junctions are currently closed,” police said, urging motorists to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Investigations are ongoing, and authorities said further updates will be shared as more information becomes available.
Drivers are being warned to expect significant delays as the incident continues to be dealt with.
